AMERICAN SYSTEMS Joint/International Concepts (JIC) Directorate is an international leader in the area of human effects, which includes a broad range of stimuli (light, sound, thermal, kinetic, etc.). Our intimate knowledge of ongoing and planned U.S. Department of Defense Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Program (JNLWP) human effects research means we are well placed to review and evaluate human effects research across the taxonomy of non-lethal weapons (NLW).
JIC interests span both RDT&E and S&T supported efforts. Our interactions with key groups such as the Human Effects Advisory Panel (HEAP), the Human Effects Center of Excellence (HECOE) and the Human Effects Review Board (HERB) further expand our knowledge base regarding the assessment and risk characterization of health effects related to NL technologies and weapons.
We have ongoing interactions with other organizations which sponsor and conduct human effects research applicable to NL technologies, such as national research labs, academic institutions, and the National Institute of Justice.
AMERICAN SYSTEMS supports the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate (JNLWD) Human Effects efforts to:
-
Monitor selected HE projects, such as HEMI bioeffects and HE-MAP
-
Monitor hardware development efforts
-
Coordinate with governmental/ non-governmental efforts outside the JNLWP
-
Ensure regulatory reporting compliance with respect to human subject and animal use research
-
Conduct human effects technical assessments and independent literature research on emerging NL stimuli/technologies
-
Review, comment and provide recommendations on human effects documents such as technical reports, final reports and proposals.
-
Write human effects articles for the JNLWP annual report, newsletter and website.
