Optimally, continuity of operations plans (COOP) are developed as part of a comprehensive organizational contingency plan using a planning process based on industry standards, best practices in emergency management, and continuity planning and federal guidance, where applicable. These plans detail the procedures that define how an organization will recover or continue business in the event of a disaster.
AMERICAN SYSTEMS designs, implements and supports COOP sites for various branches of the DoD and many commercial organizations. We believe that COOP plans should build on existing programs that support critical infrastructure protection, business continuity, and (computer) disaster recovery planning.
We conduct COOP assessments to identify gaps and operational capabilities. The COOP should support the organization’s strategic planning process. By identifying and setting priorities for essential organization functions, the COOP plan will work to ensure minimum service disruption in the event of a disaster.
Our assessment process addresses all elements essential to comprehensive COOP planning. These elements are
