AMERICAN SYSTEMS Appoints Three Strategic Business Area Leaders

5 February 2007—Chantilly, VA—AMERICAN SYSTEMS, an employee-owned government IT solutions provider, today announced the appointment of three accomplished Strategic Business Area (SBA) leaders who will be responsible for accelerating the growth and expansion of AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ service offerings within each of their respective SBAs.

Effective immediately, new AMERICAN SYSTEMS strategic business area leaders are as follows:

  • Reginal Clemmons, vice president, Readiness Strategic Business Area, will lead a team that helps military and civilian agencies train and educate their personnel to perform tasks critical to their organizations’ missions. 
  • Jason Frye, vice president, C4ISR Strategic Business Area, will advance AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ efforts to develop, test, and field innovative systems that meet the intelligence and defense community’s tactical and strategic C4ISR requirements.

  • Dirk van der Vaart, vice president, National Security Strategic Business Area, will develop new business and reinforce AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ expertise in the planning and execution of mission critical programs, protection of critical infrastructure, enhancement of information and communication technologies, and promotion of physical security.

Clemmons previously served as vice president of Army Programs as part of AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ Corporate Business Development Office, where he worked to create integrated marketing, sales and proposal resources to target large multi-divisional strategic initiatives and business opportunities. Prior to this position, he served as the Commandant of the National War College, National Defense University, where he oversaw the education and training of military and civilian students in the Joint Military Education Course in National Military Strategy.

Prior to joining AMERICAN SYSTEMS, Frye served as vice president of Mediaware International, a global leader in digital video ISR systems. Earlier in his career, he led the Military Operational Support business at L-3 Communications Government Services Inc., where he built the sector’s C4ISR business from a standing start to over $275 million in contract awards. Frye also served 23 years in the U.S. Army.

In his most recent position, van der Vaart served as vice president/director of Field Support as part of AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ Diplomatic Security contract with the U.S. Department of State. He also previously served as president of BH Defense, a multinational joint venture providing security consulting services in Iraq.  van der Vaart is a former special operations officer with the CIA, where he was frequently deployed to war-torn and hostile environments. van der Vaart is fluent in six languages and earned an MBA in International Business from The George Washington University.
